Frequently Asked Questions

How can viewing content with Imvi help improve my reading speed?

Imvi trains how the eyes and brain work together. The app shows moving images to each eye, and the brain learns to merge them into a clear image using VR. This movement strengthens the eye’s coordination, focus, and ability to follow objects, the same skills used when reading.

Over time, your eyes can move more efficiently across lines of text, allowing you to read faster with less effort.

Do I need a doctor’s assessment before starting Imvi?

Even though having a diagnosis before starting with Imvi can be helpful, neither a prescription nor formal test results are required to begin the training.

However, the following individuals should consult us or their optician/orthoptist before training:

  • Those with a visible squint (strabismus) and/or who use prism glasses.
  • Those with amblyopia (who have always had weaker vision in one eye) or who were patch-treated as children.
  • Those experiencing double vision following a stroke, concussion, or post-COVID.

How does the training work?

You train your brain by watching videos with the Imvi app in our VR glasses. Through our patented technology, the film swings sideways and makes the eyes follow the same movement, while the brain perceives a regular film. You choose what you want to watch from, for example, Youtube and SVT Play.

How long should I train to see results?

To get lasting results, we recommend training for 15 minutes, 4 times a week, for at least 12 weeks. The exact time it takes depends on your current symptoms.

Research shows that most people need around 12 weeks of training to achieve long-term improvements. Once you no longer notice symptoms, it’s best to keep training for the same amount of time it took to get symptom-free—this helps make the results permanent.

Example: If your symptoms disappear after 6 weeks, continue for another 6 weeks to secure lasting results.

Many users start noticing positive changes within the first few weeks, which makes it easier to stay motivated. We’ll guide you through every step so you can progress at your own pace.

Does Imvi work for everyone?

Imvi is designed to train the eye and brain's ability to work together. It can be helpful for children and adolescents with binocular vision difficulties, such as convergence insufficiency. Many users also experience improved reading skills and concentration after regular training.

Are there any risks to training?

Vergence training is risk-free.

People who have visible strabismus, amblyopia, who use prism glasses, and who have double vision after a stroke, concussion or post-covid must consult us or their optician before training.

Can I use my own VR glasses?

We strongly recommend using Imvi's VR glasses. The training is adapted to our model, which has adjustable focus and pupil distance, works with glasses, fits most screen sizes and is comfortable to use. Furthermore, we cannot offer support on other VR models or guarantee results if other headsets are used.

Do I keep the VR glasses after training?

Yes, the VR glasses are for you to keep.

Can you train without VR glasses?

No, the VR glasses are needed so that each eye gets its own small monitor, which is needed for the training to work.

Can I train while wearing glasses/contact lenses?

Yes, vergence training is not affected by regular glasses or contact lenses. However, the glasses must fit in the VR glasses. If you need glasses to see well at a distance of about two meters, you should use glasses. People who use prism glasses, please contact us before training.

Why is my PD important for Imvi, and which one do I enter?

Imvi uses your distance PD (pupillary distance) to align the VR lenses with your eyes, so the training works as intended. If your prescription shows two values (distance and near), always use the distance PD. If you don’t know your PD yet, you can measure it easily in the app in under a minute.

How many languages are available in the app?

We currently offer Swedish, English, Finnish and Norwegian in the app, and more languages will be added in the future.

How can I monitor my child's training with Imvi?

We offer a free account in the app for parents/guardians who want to monitor their child's training. To monitor your child's training, tap "Register here" under the "Create account" button. Then follow the instructions in the app to add your child to your monitoring account.

Rune Brautaset, Professor of Optometry and Head of Department at Karolinska Institutet, answers your FAQ's:

Why should you train your eye coordination?

You should train your coordination because so many everyday situations rely on good eye coordination.

What's the difference between Imvi and traditional vergence training.

"Traditional vision training is very boring, which makes it difficult and takes a long time to achieve real results."

Does Imvi provide lasting results?

"We train the brain’s ability to process visual information. With Imvi, you teach your eyes to see correctly — at first it takes focus, but with continued training it becomes second nature, leading to lasting results."

Can Imvi help me with brain injury?

"Imvi can help people with brain injuries, since the symptoms often resemble vision problems, and it can support you in regaining the skills you had before the injury."

Can Imvi help me with ADHD or Dyslexia?

"With ADHD, training increases one's ability to visually concentrate. For people with dyslexia, training helps with extra capacity when reading, which facilitates interpretation when reading"
