ADHD and
vergence insufficiency

ADHD is a neuropsychiatric diagnosis that often affects the ability to focus, organize tasks and control impulses. ADHD often occurs together with what is called attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and sometimes they can even be confused. Imvi Labs, in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, has developed a method where you train your eye coordination.

"With ADHD, we believe that training helps by increasing their ability to visually concentrate, so by having better eye coordination you get a longer interval where you can focus"

Eye coordination problems occur when the eyes do not work together as effectively as they should. This issue is quite common, affecting approximately 10% of the population. Importantly, these problems are not primarily caused by the eyes themselves but by the brain’s difficulty in coordinating eye movements.

Poor eye coordination affects concentration

When eye coordination is poor, it becomes difficult to focus both eyes on the same point. The brain tries to compensate for this, which makes it work harder and consumes a significant amount of energy in the frontal lobe. In just 10 minutes, up to 90% of the brain’s available energy can be used. This increased effort can significantly worsen ADHD symptoms and explains why improving eye coordination often has a positive impact for people with ADHD.

Fun & effective training for those with ADHD symptoms

Stream your favorite series in VR

You can easily train by watching streamed content via the Imvi app on your mobile phone with our VR glasses.

Train while streaming your favorite shows

Through the app you choose what type of content you want to watch. We currently support content from Youtube, SVT Play, Binogi, UR Play and content directly from your phone's camera roll.

Train your eye coordination

The app makes the image stream oscillate from right to left. But your brain perceives it as a regular movie.

You watch your show -
Our App does the rest

The training focuses on improving the brain's control of the eyes for better eye coordination. This improves blood flow and oxygenation of the brain, which increases reading speed, reading endurance and concentration.

Follow your progress

In the app you can easily follow your progress over time and receive recommendations if you need to continue training.

Personalized tips based on your progress

In the app you can follow your or your children's development and results. We offer free accounts for parents to monitor their children's progress! After completing the training, you will receive personal recommendations for further training based on your results and progress.

After you have trained for 12 weeks, we will analyze whether more training is needed. For most people, 12 weeks is enough. If we see that your development has not reached a plateau but has more potential for improvement, we will recommend that you purchase further training. If you follow the training program, you will get lasting improvements.

Depending on the type of problem, it can take different lengths of time. People who exercise after a stroke often need at least 6 months, while for children who want to improve their reading, 12 weeks is often enough, sometimes 18.

What is ADHD?

ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neuropsychiatric disorder that usually appears in childhood but often continues into adulthood. It is characterized by difficulty maintaining attention and concentration, as well as hyperactivity and impulsivity. People with ADHD may have difficulty organizing tasks, following instructions, and completing projects. It is a heterogeneous condition with varying degrees of severity and different combinations of symptoms. ADHD affects not only an individual's academic and occupational performance, but also their relationships and overall quality of life.

Signs of ADHD

  • Attention problems: Difficulty maintaining attention for extended periods, easily distracted by external stimuli.
  • Hyperactivity: Overactivity, difficulty sitting still, often feeling restless.
  • Impulsivity: Acts without thinking about the consequences, has difficulty waiting one's turn.

ADHD, Diagnosis and investigation

Diagnosing ADHD is a complex process that involves a careful evaluation of an individual's symptoms, behavioral patterns, and life history. Typically, an ADHD evaluation is performed by a qualified psychologist, psychiatrist, or neuropsychiatrist. Diagnostic criteria established by diagnostic manuals such as the DSM-5 or ICD-10 are used as guidelines to assess whether an individual meets the requirements for an ADHD diagnosis.

The evaluation may include a variety of methods, such as interviews with the individual and their loved ones to gather information about the duration and severity of symptoms. Psychological tests may also be used to assess cognitive function and attentional capacity. In addition, behavioral and observational assessments may be conducted to observe the individual's interactions and behavior in different settings, such as home or school.

It is important to note that the diagnosis of ADHD is not only based on the presence of symptoms, but also on how these symptoms affect the individual's daily life functions and ability to function in different environments. A holistic picture of the individual's behavior, cognitive abilities, and life situation is considered during the diagnostic process.

After an ADHD diagnosis has been established, various treatment options and support strategies can be discussed and implemented to help the individual manage their symptoms and optimize their functioning. It is important to emphasize that the diagnosis of ADHD is not a label, but rather a guide to understanding and managing the individual's unique needs and challenges.

Living with ADHD

Living with ADHD means dealing with a variety of challenges in everyday life, but it also means unique strengths and abilities. Many people with ADHD are creative, energetic, and have an ability to think outside the box. By embracing these positive qualities and working with effective strategies to manage their difficulties, people with ADHD can thrive and achieve success.

It is also important to know that ADHD affects not only the individual but also family, friends and colleagues. Creating a supportive and understanding environment can help people with ADHD succeed and flourish. Education and awareness about ADHD are crucial to reducing stigma and promoting acceptance and inclusion.

Finally, it is important to remember that there is no easy solution to ADHD. Treating and managing ADHD can be a long process that requires patience, perseverance, and commitment. By taking small steps each day and working toward their goals, people with ADHD can overcome obstacles and live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
