🚀 Getting started with Imvi

1. Download Imvi Read from the App Store or Google Play.

  • Tip! If training with students' phones, ask them to download the app at home as approval from guardians may be required.

2. Open the app and scan the student's QR code to log in.

  • Tip! If you forget your password, you can access the app with the QR code.

3. Take the tests: vergence test and reading speed (repeated every 6 weeks).

  • Note: You should be undisturbed during the test sessions to ensure fair results.

4. Measure each student's pupil distance with the Imvis PD meter. See instructions below. Enter the PD value in the Teacher Portal.

  • Note: If you measure with the test in the app, enter the value in the app instead.

5. Adjust the VR glasses to the pupil distance using the included measuring tape. See how

  • Tip: Put a piece of duct tape over the knob in the middle so that the setting is not changed by mistake.

6. Start the training and select the Images method (start here).

7. Have the student adjust for focus with the knobs on the right and left sides until the image is clear.

  • Tip: Set one eye at a time.

8. After the first training with images, it is fine to train with any content you choose.

  • Tip! In the Teacher Portal, you can set up a Training List that automatically picks what your students should watch.

Train 5 times a week, 15 minutes per session.

Important! Find routines for your training.

How to measure pupillary distance with Imvi's PD meter:

1. Start the meter by pressing the left button marked 'Main'. When the meter is running, numbers will appear on the display.

2. Hold the rubber part against the bridge of the student’s nose and look through the hole at the narrow end of the PD meter.

  • The student should see a green dot on the meter that they should look at while keeping their gaze still.
  • The person performing the measurement sees two vertical lines. These are adjusted laterally using the two controls on the top of the PD meter.

3. Adjust the lines so that they intersect in the middle of both pupils. This will correctly measure the pupillary distance.

NOTE: The display shows three values. Use the middle one (PD) when setting the VR glasses.

4. Once the PD value has been measured and recorded, the VR glasses are ready to be adjusted. This is done using the measuring tape and silver tape included in the teacher kit. See how

▶️ Create/assign training playlist

1. Create training list

Log in to the Teacher Portal to create and assign the content your class will watch during their training session.

  • In the left menu, open Training List and click Create List.
  • Give your list a name, link it to a grade level, and make it public if you’d like to share it with other teachers using Imvi.
  • Select your list and add the content you want.

2. Assign training list

  • To assign a training playlist to the class, first activate it by clicking the icon at the top right of the list.
  • On the student page, check that the progress indicator is 0% for students who are about to start training with the list.
📅 Routine training

Before training

  • Choose a quiet place where students can sit undisturbed.
  • Set out the VR glasses and phones with headphones so everything is ready when the training starts.

During training (15 min per session)

  • If students are not logged in, they scan their personal QR code to log in to their Imvi account.
  • They place their phone in the VR glasses, put them on, and complete their daily training session.

After training

  • Pack away the VR glasses, headphones and mobile phones.
  • Short debriefing in a group or individually: “How did you feel today?”
  • Note if any student experiences discomfort or if the app malfunctions, so it can be addressed.

Tips & Troubleshooting Guide

Headset feels uncomfortable
  • Why: The straps may be too loose/tight or they may not fit the student's head properly.
  • Do this: Adjust the straps until it is secure but comfortable. Check that the lenses are in line with the student's eyes. Feel free to let the student take a short break before continuing. With larger phones, it can be heavy for a younger student, so being able to train with a headrest, or lying down is a good idea.
Image is blurry
  • Why: The student hasn't adjusted the focus setting, or the lenses need to be cleaned.
  • Do this: Adjust by using the knobs on the left/right sides of the VR until the image becomes sharper. If this does not help, gently wipe the lenses with a soft cloth.
  • If this does not help, you can check if the student's pupil distance was measured correctly on their VR. Start by checking that the lens distance in VR is the same as the PD distance in the Teacher Portal.
VR lenses fogging up
  • Why: Warm breath or temperature differences can cause fogging.
  • Here's how: Take off the headset for a while, dry the lenses, then put it back on. Make sure it's snug but not too tight, allowing some air to circulate.
Student feels dizzy or tired
  • Why: This can happen the first few times as your eyes adjust, or if the headset is not adjusted properly.
  • Do this: Pause the session, let the student rest, and explain that it usually gets easier after a few times. Start again when the student feels ready.
App has frozen or won't start
  • Why: Sometimes your phone just needs to be restarted.
  • Try this: Close and reopen the app. If that doesn't help, restart your phone and try again.

Student keeps taking the VR off
  • Why: The student may feel uncomfortable, distracted, or restless.
  • What to do: Check if something is bothering them (VR fit, focus, tiredness). Allow a short break if needed, then encourage them by reminding why the training helps.

Tip: If a student is distracted by sensory input, they can hold the VR glasses in front of their face instead of wearing them with the straps.

Encourage the class to be consistent

Set a common goal in class or plan a closing activity (certificate, reading party, etc.) to make the program more fun.
