Dyslexia and
vergence insufficiency

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that primarily affects reading fluency and spelling ability. The symptoms of dyslexia can be similar to those with vergence insufficiency (eye coordination problems,) leading to potential confusion between the two. Imvi Labs, in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, has developed a method for training eye coordination to help address these issues.

Vergence problems mean that the eyes do not work together optimally. Each eye works well individually, but together the cooperation does not work as well as it could. This can affect everything from reading speed, concentration and eye fatigue. For people who have dyslexia and struggle with reading, there is an incredible amount to gain from training their vision .

Oliver from @dyssepodden

"I read 40% faster now, but the best part is I can focus for 40 minutes instead of 10. Schoolwork has become so much easier."

Rune Brautaset

Professor of Optometry & Head of Department at Karolinska Institutet

"With Dyslexia, the effect of the training is that in reading, where phonetics and eye coordination must work together, you have extra capacity to control your eyes, which makes reading and interpreting what you read easier."

Eye coordination can be trained

Imvi Labs, in collaboration with researchers from Karolinska Institutet, has developed a method where you train your eye coordination in a simple and entertaining way. Eye coordination training relieves the brain and improves reading skills. Both reading speed, reading endurance and concentration skills are developed. For those with dyslexia, this means an opportunity to alleviate many of the concerns that dyslexia causes. For people with dyslexia, this offers a way to reduce many of the challenges it brings. While dyslexia itself cannot be trained away, everyone can improve their eye coordination.

Fun & effective training

Stream your favorite series in VR

You can easily train by watching streamed content via the Imvi app on your mobile phone that sits in our VR glasses.

Train while streaming your favorite shows

Through the app you choose what type of content you want to watch. We currently provide content from Youtube, SVT Play, Binogi, UR Play and content directly from your phone's camera roll.

Train your eye coordination

The app moves the image slightly from side to side, but your brain sees it as a normal movie.

Just watch your shows -
Our App does the rest

The training focuses on improving the brain's control of the eyes for better eye coordination. This improves blood flow and oxygenation of the brain, which increases reading speed, reading endurance and concentration.

Follow your progress

In the app you can easily follow your progress over time and receive recommendations for continued training.

Personalized tips based on your progress

In the app you can follow your or your children's development and results. We offer free accounts for parents to monitor their children's progress! After completing the training, you will receive personal recommendations for further training based on your results and progress.

People with Dyslexia & other reading and writing difficulties improve
on average by 101%

Julia

“I have dyslexia and that's why I'm so incredibly grateful that I've had the opportunity to train with Imvi. It makes it easier for me to read and write.”

Rasmus

“My reading speed increased by 50%. Now when I read aloud to the children, I notice that I don’t strain myself. My eyes are also not as tired after a day of work.”

Irma, 10 years old

“The best part was that I could exercise without having to read, while watching my favorite shows. Now I don't have to reread sentences & reading feels much easier.”

Malin, 36 years old

“I have improved my comprehension by 27% and on average I have improved my reading speed by a whopping 89%!”

Signe, 10 years old

The Imvis app is available for both iOS and Android. Once you have purchased your Starter Package, you can easily download the app.

3. Stream your favorite series in VR

In the Imvis app you watch streamed content to train your eye coordination. Each training session lasts 15 minutes where you can choose to watch series/clips from, for example, Youtube, SVT Play, Binogi, UR Play

4. Train your eye coordination

Enjoy watching at least 15 minutes of your chosen content while exercising to improve your hand-eye coordination!

5. Improve your reading and concentration skills

Imvi is designed to improve brain-eye cooperation, allowing you to unlock the capacity of your brain for faster reading, better focus, and better concentration.

6. Get tips and recommendations for further training

After you have trained for 12 weeks, we will analyze whether more training is needed. For most people, 12 weeks is enough. If we see that your development has not reached a plateau but has more potential for improvement, we will recommend that you purchase further training. If you follow the training program, you will get lasting improvements.

Depending on the type of problem, it can take different lengths of time. People who exercise after a stroke often need at least 6 months, while for children who want to improve their reading, 12 weeks is often enough, sometimes 18.

What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that causes difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling. It is important to note that dyslexia is not related to a person's intelligence. Many people with dyslexia have average or above-average intelligence and can be extremely creative, think in innovative ways, and have unique problem-solving abilities. Dyslexia is hereditary and occurs in all walks of life and cultures.

Early signs of Dyslexia

Symptoms of dyslexia can vary depending on age and access to support. In children, early signs may include delays in speech development, difficulty learning new words, problems with rhyming or learning the alphabet, numbers and days of the week.

Signs of Dyslexia in school aged kids

At school age, symptoms become more obvious and may include problems reading aloud, slow reading speed, difficulty understanding text that is read, problems with spelling, and avoidance of reading.

Diagnosis and evaluation

A thorough dyslexia evaluation is essential to establishing an accurate diagnosis of dyslexia. This process should include a detailed history of the individual's academic and family history, observations of reading and writing skills, and standardized reading and writing tests. In Sweden, there are specific guidelines and resources for conducting these evaluations, for both children and adults.

Help and strategies

There are a number of aids and strategies that can facilitate learning and daily activities for people with dyslexia. Technological aids are becoming increasingly common. Imvi Lab's patented VR method is an example of this. We have today trained a large number of dyslexics, all with good results.

Schools and educational institutions can adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of students with dyslexia, including longer time on tests, using oral instructions instead of written ones, and providing notes.

Support and resources

Seeking support and accessing resources is important for individuals with dyslexia and their families. In Sweden, there are organizations such as FDB, which offer information, support and guidance. Schools and educational institutions also play a critical role in providing necessary support and accommodations.

FAQ

How do you know if you have vergence insufficiency?

To know if you have a vision problem, you can look for signs such as eye strain, headaches, and difficulty judging distances. If your eyes are not working together effectively, it can be an indication of a vision problem. We also offer a free test that you can take here.

What are common symptoms of vergence insufficency?

Common symptoms include headaches , eye strain, blurred vision, double vision , and difficulty focusing on text. It is important to pay attention to these signs and seek medical attention in a timely manner.

Can you train away vergence problems?

Yes, vergence insufficiency can be trained through various methods, including eye coordination training that focuses on improving eye coordination. Traditional exercises, such as moving a pencil back and forth, are examples of this training. Imvi Labs has developed a method that trains eye coordination problems by watching movies in VR.

How does the training work?

You train your eyes to coordinate while watching videos with the Imvi app in our VR glasses. Our patented technology, the film swings sideways and makes the eyes follow the same movement, while the brain perceives a regular film.

You choose what you want to watch from, for example, YouTube and SVT Play.
