The phone rang. A message from Johan. “My wife has a colleague with a 10-year-old child, with severe dyslexia, who with Imvi has gone over the edge to being able to read — from not being able to assimilate text at all to actually reading a simple book on his own… life changing.”
I was on my way to an event where I was supposed to tell you what Imvi does in one minute. One minute is a short time, and I had planned to talk about our patented training method and statistics. But then the message came – and I changed my mind. I told you about a girl in grade 4 instead.
Shortly afterwards I got in touch with the mother, Kristina from Trelleborg. We booked a call.
Their daughter has a language disorder that was discovered before she was one year old and severe dyslexia. Her hearing was tested – without any complaints. Her vision too. She gets help from a speech therapist and a special education teacher, but reading is still very difficult. Her self-esteem too.
Then came the tip from a colleague that the mother trusted: “Try Imvi.” She and her husband read on and thought: “It sounds a little too good to be true… But it doesn’t cost that much. If it works, it’s fantastic.”
They decided. The challenge? To get their daughter along. Had it been about reading something – never in their life. There simply weren’t the conditions. But watching a movie in VR? Maybe. Even YouTube? Well, it could be done, and it did. During the training period, the daughter has made enormous progress, which the school has seen in its H4 tests. The teachers saw it early. The parents saw it earlier.
After 6 weeks, the test results were difficult to interpret, which did not match their own experience – but the girl was always tired in the evenings after school when they did the test. At 12 weeks, they chose to test on a weekend instead. The result: very big improvements. Exactly what she felt in everyday life.
She has started reading simpler books. She has gained self-confidence. She raises her hand when it is time to read aloud in class. She has been given the opportunity to read – and to continue improving her reading. Right now she is continuing to practice with Imv. The mother concluded: “My husband and I are so incredibly grateful for the help our daughter has received.”
