Vinnova supports reading aids that want to reach schools

Vinnova stöttar läshjälp som vill nå skolor

The companies should not only work with sustainability in a responsible way, but the whole business idea is to contribute to solving a global societal challenge.

– We are very proud of the recognition that Vinnova gives us at Imvi Labs as an Impact company, and the opportunity to accelerate our work to reach as many schools as possible. It is precisely through the work with schools that we hope to be able to reach many more with our training early, and thereby contribute to improved school results and quality of life, says Imvi Labs CEO and co-founder Peter Carlsson.

The co-financing applies to the project Improved reading speed through improved eye coordination. Through the project, Imvi Labs will develop the company's business model so that it suits schools, both municipal and independent schools, and verify the model in Sweden in order to then scale it up both in Sweden and abroad.

406 applications were received for the Innovative Impact Startups call in autumn 2022. The applications that met all formal requirements were assessed in competition with each other by at least three specially appointed assessors. The assessment was based on a combination of the seven main criteria Relevance, Potential, Solution, Customer Benefit, Business Strategy, Team and Implementation, where particular emphasis was placed on the criterion Relevance: Whether the business idea/solution can contribute to solving a societal challenge (impact).

Imvi Labs is a Malmö-based company that has developed a VR solution to help people read better and longer. The solution, which is based on previous research and studies in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, is sold to schools and private individuals, among others. Imvi Labs was started in 2021 by Rune Brautaset, Sweden's first professor of optometry, Michael Malmqvist, who invented VR training, and the company's CEO Peter Carlsson.

Imvi Labs has been awarded the maximum support amount of SEK 300,000 by Vinnova in the call for Innovative Impact Startups in autumn 2022. The call will support companies that develop innovations that make a difference in Sweden and in a global market.
